log 177: location

motivation

This past week I finally changed gyms. It’s been a long time coming, and I learned a lot from the tiny chain I was working out in. Setting and location matters an incredible amount. At that small gym I had little to no motivation. When I moved to California I thought the gym scene would be far more saturated with nice places to workout and lots of trainers to learn from. However, I was let down. In my area there were very few options, and the one “fancy” gym was far overpriced. I settled for a smaller gym that is a part of a chain. Over the few months that I worked out there I found it to be unkept, dirty, and draining my motivation to workout. I had no energy or drive to physically exert myself in a gym that doesn’t make me feel like I want to. I figured it was time for a change so I found another a bit farther but on my way to school. The place is much cleaner, has better equipment, people who want to workout and better themselves, I feel rejuvenated. I feel ready to train. Yet, as a person who is always trying to learn something from my experiences and hopefully a future gym owner, there was a small issue that irked me. As a customer, I want my experience to be flawless with little to no hiccups. It’s something that I have to think about when I’m building out Kynetik v2 and my future place of operations. The customer is all that matters.

Note to self: don’t put the showers right next to the toilets in the bathrooms… It's gross.
