log 66: lyon
detail
This past weekend I was able to travel to Lyon, France. My parents have raved about this city for a decade and I’m so happy I finally had the chance to go. It was incredible. It was much cleaner and “fresher” than Paris. It was a severe breath of fresh air. I went with a new friend of mine and all we did was walk around in random directions with a general heading, the best kind of exploration. Aside from the very traditional French food, my favorite part of the trip was the Basilica of Notre Dame of Fourvière. I’ve been to many beautiful churches, basilicas, and chapels, but this one was on another level. There was so much incredible detail in the art inside. The tiles on the wall to the stained glass. Everything was done with so much attention to detail, it was breathtaking. Aside from that, I have a new bone to pick with a lot of French bistro’s. I believe it’s common to have to salt your food after it is received but I dislike that. It seems like I’m having to do it a lot because the food I’m ordering at certain places is so bland. I enjoy French cuisine because it draws out natural flavors of food in an elegant way but recently I’ve been needing much more of a kick. Maybe I just miss the strong flavors of Asian cuisine.
