log 7: updates
progress
My miniature Swift learning breakthrough earlier this week left me feeling very satisfied with the progress I was able to put into my app. I spent the latter portion of the weekdays implementing table cells, similar to message bubbles. I started small by getting the cell displayed on the screen, then having dynamic data populate the cells, and finally, displaying the dynamic data read from Cloud Firestore. I then converted the cells into a separate file that holds a single-cell template and reused it multiple times. This was initially my plan with the Cloud Firestore reader I wrote about in my previous log, but that didn’t go as well. This time I was able to convert functioning code into a separate file which is better because I can check my steps along the way. I was also able to download a new cocoapod, which is basically a coding mod that allows me to embed Youtube videos into my app as long as I supply the link code. Through a little bit of trial and error, I was able to embed a youtube video into the reusable cell. Currently, they hold a random static link so they all display the same video, which is a great place to start. But now that I am getting ahead in the coding aspect of the app, I have to focus on the informational part.
While I know how I am going to get my app to query the data from Cloud Firestore, I want it to be done in the most efficient way possible. So that means taking the time to plan out the steps so that when I add new information in the future, it will be a seamless integration. And now that I know how to add youtube videos to my app, I have to start planning out my youtube videos. It feels like there are a million things to do at once, which there are, but that’s the most exciting part. I always have something to do, whether it’s coding, filming videos, or writing these build logs. There is always something to be done. So in light of keeping all the things that happened this short week, here is a bulleted list.
My shirts with my initial logo finally arrived. It felt great to wear my logo in the gym and begin filming videos.
Emailed my lawyer asking about trademark and copyright protection on logos. In the process of scheduling a 3-month meeting.
Filmed, edited, and posted two cooking videos on Instagram. Still have to film the ending to the hotpot video.
Finished my cover letter for culinary school. Currently finishing the full application now.
Finished planning a 2-week solo trip to Europe.
Planned a camping trip … for this Tuesday.
I’m off to enjoy the cold wilderness. Spending Tuesday to Friday chopping wood, making fires, reading, working, filming, and cooking.
