log 77: run

discomfort

Running has never been something I enjoyed. It will never be something that I look forward to with great enthusiasm. During my time in Paris, I couldn’t access a gym that suited my needs. So I decided that it was time to change it up. I pushed myself to run. Running after two knee surgeries isn’t the most comfortable thing for me, but I knew that if I could push through the first few sessions I could adjust. As a future health professional, it feels important that I’m able to display some sort of athleticism when it comes to long-distance cardio. While running isn’t meant for everyone, it’s a personal challenge for me. Waking up early in the morning just to do something I don’t want to do for the sake of my health is a huge win and starts my day off right. It enforces the discipline that I have built up in various aspects of my life and channels it into something physically challenging. After two months of running, I was surprised by how much I was able to improve. I started with short 2km runs and ended up pushing 10. All it took was a little self-determination and taking one step at a time.
