log 99: experience
tavern
Aside from working on my app I have been going into my brother’s bar a few times a week just to help around. After all, he watched my dog for 4 months while I was away. A Brother Tax, so to speak. So far it has been a great way to learn about management and all the things that a manager has to go through to make the bar work smoothly. Before I worked a full shift as the only manager he was showing me all of the systems and things that may happen. All I could think was how I’m just going to need to dive straight in and figure it out on the fly. Once the Saturday rush came, it all hit me at once. Tons of people coming in, going out, checking out, ordering, it was the whole package. But that experience taught me more than my brother just explaining things to me. It’s the exact same as my React Native course and learning how to do it on my own. The course only goes so far, telling me how to make easy apps. Once I finally dived in, there was so much for me to learn. I had to just try and try again while reading documentation to figure out my problems. It’s like being thrown into the deep end of the pool. Granted, there are very little consequences for me, but it’s a very fast and efficient way to learn.
