log 109: journal

organization

Since my trip to London I have been testing out a journal that I bought. It’s just a plain notebook but I have been using it to plan my work days. First, on every Sunday, I think about the most important thing that I MUST get done that week. It can range from finishing a portion of code to brainstorming how I’m going to do a special feature. Second, each day I write what is the most important thing that I can do that day to put me in the direction of accomplishing my weekly goal. After that, I plan my processes and after I finish working I end with what I accomplished that day. This quick little planning session has cleared up so much of my schedule because it sets a focus for each of my work sessions. Often I would find myself either working on something unimportant, or working too much. Writing down the most important thing that I need to accomplish keeps me on track for my bigger goal, but also stops me from over working. In my previous post, I talked about slowing down, and I intend to do so. I’ve been so caught up with work that I forgot to explore places and meet friends. At the end of this process, I’m also going to have really cool books that document my entire work journey much closer. Similar to this blog but at a specific level.
