log 175: family

business

In my previous log I wrote about hiring my sister and I thought it would be interesting to write about why and how I decided to. If I learned anything from my father, who is writing his dissertation of family business dynamics at USC, is that communication has to be crystal clear. She doesn’t edit my videos for free, she’s getting paid to do so because she is a professional. I always hear stories about how it’s not good to work for your sibling, friend, or family member because you get expected to do more for less. Not with my family. We are each our own professionals and have to be treated in that way. There is no pro bono work when it comes to our individual businesses. We all work together, and the business side of things stays on the business side. It’s the first time I hired a family member so it’ll be a good test run. There’s always going to be a lot of room to grow regardless.
