log 197: seminar

learning

This past weekend I took a seminar to get continuing education credits for my strength certification. During this time of extreme work load, it was difficult to attend a 20 hour seminar on a weekend that I needed to study. I was having trouble getting excited about learning because of how exhausted I was from the week before. But, I tried my best and mustered the energy to attend. After the first day I felt a little disappointed. I thought the seminar by Barbell Rehab would be a little more challenging and thought provoking. I thought the entire first day felt like common sense or simple good practice. Everything they implemented is exactly what I would have done for rehabilitation. I was absolutely not thrilled to attend the second day because of it. Yet, as the seminar leader kept on going it became more interesting. I realised the only reason why I thought it was a review was because she was merging what I learned in school and what I learned as a strength coach. Now, instead of attending a laborious seminar, I was attending a seminar that had methodically laid out physical methods of rehab. They directly showed me how to implement my newfound PT knowledge into the field of strength and conditioning. That was the jackpot. Sometimes the importance of a lesson comes later on and you just have to stick to it. Now I’m going home with more ideas and a clearer understanding of how to develop a more personalized program for Kynetik.
