Earlier in this week I decided to take a little bit of time for myself at night to play some video games. Within twenty seconds of opening up a new game I’ve been waiting to play for a while I thought of a huge idea that would bring balance to my app. Although I haven’t coded any of it at all I thought it was so cool how so much of my life and work is now connected. Food, video games, working out. I’m so lucky to have the chance to create a product that truly does mean a lot to me personally. I’ve worked for other people before, but it was always someone else’s dream. Sure, we shared similar goals but it was never my calling to work for someone else’s vision. Now that I’m working for myself, so many things just make sense. However, even though they make sense to me doesn’t mean it’s going to make sense for other people. Especially the people I hire in the future of my company. So this week I decided that one of my tasks was to update the documentation of my app. Although I could definitely just write the entire app out and write the documentation at the end, it also serves as a planning tool. For me to physically type out where and what my app is reading and writing is very important. How I structure, store, send, and manipulate data is the base of my app so documenting it is important. This week I also had meetings with two close friends, who come from very different backgrounds. One is an amazing coder who is way too smart. I asked her about SOP(standard operating procedures) in software/computer science companies so that I can future-proof my app starting now. This includes documentation, naming convention, and even tasks/organization schedulers. This kind of information is imperative for building a good foundation for my company. On the other hand, I interviewed another startup CEO who primarily focuses on personal training. I needed to ask her about the nuts and bolts of personal training, especially online. During my own training sessions, it’s easy for me to figure out what to do because I have trained other people and know how to do movements correctly. This is not the case with most people, and most people don’t have the same dedication to the gym as I do. So I needed to figure out how to keep clients motivated, how do I progress them properly, how do I keep people motivated, and how do I design programs well. I know that I know many things, but other people always know something that I don't. As much as I am building this company by myself and doing all the hard work, it’s the brainchild of all the people and experiences in my past that have led me to this point. So looking onward to the rest of the week, I have more meetings planned to gain even more information and perspective on the company, app, and training development. This is the fun part, I feel like I’m really starting to become a builder.
