simple

I have written about keeping my work simple multiple times throughout this written journey, so what harm could another log do? In the past few days, I had two realizations about simplicity. The first was when I watched my grandfather use his phone. It really is amazing how far technology has come since he was my age. Back then, they didn’t have anything at all. Watching him use his phone, with the big letters, ten apps, and index finger selection, I realized I have to redefine who is my target audience. If I am targeting elderly people, they probably don’t care about the fun. If I’m targeting middle-aged people, maybe the fun is nice, but they’re too busy to care. If I’m targeting the younger generation, maybe fun is more important. Regardless of who my target audience is, I have to have a quality product. This is just thinking about what kind of features I want for different groups, and how I display them. Would this be done in one app? Can it be done in one app?

My second realization was when I went to eat at a doujiang breakfast place in Taipei. Our family has been coming here for about 15 years, and we have been dying to come back. The aunty who runs the place with her husband has seen us grow up. She even has photos of us on her Google Maps site. While she was talking to us about her business, she mentioned something. “At the start of your business. If you want to make money, keep your options limited. Just have a quality product.” She was talking about food and my brother's cafe bar, but this can be applied to me. What is my quality product? Training. What is my most important feature? Training. Everything else is less important. Training is the most important feature of my app. I need to make the programs specialized and the workout sessions easy to use. While taking time off seems like such a drag, it does give me time to think and reflect upon what work I need to do. Writing these logs and my ideas down helps me narrow down my creativity and clarify what tasks have priority.
