log 207: trial

expectation

The experience of working in a clinic is vastly different from the one I obtained from school. There are so many practical ways to do the skills I’ve been taught. The thought processes are far more challenging and it takes a lot of mental power to work through something. My instructor, Dr. Bryan Lee, taught me one important lesson you can take anywhere with you. Have an expectation before you start something, anything. Then at the end of the task, did it meet your expectations? If not, why? This was the process he taught me for going through an examination with a patient. We look for “holes in the story” he always said. If there is a hole, was it to be expected? If not, then maybe you need to dig deeper. This can be applied to anything. Meetings, interviews, video games, whatever. Have an expectation, and see if it was met. Be reasonable, of course.
