log 33: learning

goal

Nothing makes me happier than learning to do a new skill, then applying it to solve a lingering problem. It’s a little hard to describe but I have had a hard time sharing data between different “screens” in my app. Each screen has an associated document of code, and I need to be able to share data between each one. Most of the time it is easy to send code from a root screen to a branch screen. The hard part is sending data back the other way. For a long while solving this problem eluded me. I couldn’t figure out how to send data backward or think of a clever solution. But finally, this past week I figured out how to solve my problem. Through learning about buttons and On-Screen-Visibility, I edited source properties to work on whichever screen(s) are showing. So instead of sending data back and forth, I basically made the button work twice, solving my problem.

It’s hard to concisely describe the grueling learning processes I am going through in the written word. I wonder if making short vlogs as accompaniment would help to understand. At least to provide a visual aspect. Anyways, long story short – I learned some new skills, went back to old work, and solved a problem. Big week this week, many small upgrades will boost user experience.
