log 50: BBQ Lemongrass Chicken
50!
Can’t believe this is my 50th post. I’m impressed with myself for actually keeping up with this blog.
This week I stumbled upon an excellent flavor combination. The inspiration came from an Iron Chef episode about street food. One of the chefs skewered the meat with lemongrass and barbequed it. What an excellent idea! I thought I would try to recreate it myself. So, using the Thai sauce I made in my previous food post I marinated chicken for 3 - 4 hours. I added extra water and salt to make it a type of brine. After that, I skewered the chicken with lemongrass and barbequed it over hot coals until it was cooked.
The flavor was indescribable. A mix between the saltiness and fishiness of the fish sauce and the char of the barbeque. But it also had the bright aroma of the lemongrass. There isn’t much of a recipe yet because it was an initial test. So I’ll write one up for the next time I make it! It was the first time I started a fire in the La Jolla home so I wanted to make sure I had it under control. In the end, it wasn’t as hot as I would have liked so I’ll definitely be starting a much bigger fire next time.
As for my 50th post reflection. I’m happy with myself for keeping up with it. Initially, my goal for this blog was to document every step that I take in creating my business. I wanted to look back in 20 years to see all the progress that I made. Since then, my goal is still the same, but I want it to be more than just about business. Things that I do in life, new adventures, new food, new recipes. It has become much more than just business documentation, it has become a documentation of my experiences. I’m sure many things will change before my 100th post. But just like my life, everything is fluid and always changing. I look forward to the next steps.
