log 95: humbled
games
When I was young my dad always said, “there’s always someone smarter than you.” I never understood that message until now. I already knew I wasn’t the smartest and was wondering why my dad was teasing me. He wasn’t. He was teaching me that there is always someone that can teach me something. Someone always knows more than me about some certain topic. After joining a card game tournament at my brother’s bar. I finally understood the lesson. I went into the tournament thinking that I’m in it to win it all. I got crushed in my first two games. They knew more about the new cards, the game, the tactics, and everything else. I could have been a sore loser and pouted on my way home, but this was a perfect opportunity to ask and learn. They spent the 15 min helping me look through my cards and develop a better strategy. Only 15 minutes! That's all the time it took for me to learn something from people that knew more than me. Sometimes we get caught up with our ego and think we are the smartest in the room. Someone can always teach us something if we are willing to listen.
